What counts as quiet on ClearSpot?

ClearSpot's noise module draws from two layers: European strategic noise maps published by the EEA, covering motorways, major railways, and airports; and a secondary layer from the osm-noise-pollution project, which models ambient road noise from OpenStreetMap road network data. Cities that appear in neither layer - or only in low-density zones - score near 100% (minimum noise burden). Cities crossed by major motorways, high-speed rail lines, or under flight paths score lower.

Noise is one of the more stable environmental layers: major infrastructure changes slowly. Scores are refreshed annually for the strategic layer and monthly for the modelled road-noise layer.
